The penalty for introducing gaps in the alignment is governed by two parameters: Gap opening (&amp;quot;expensive&amp;quot; - big penalty, e.g. 10 points) and Gap elongation (&amp;quot;cheap&amp;quot;, e.g. 1 point).&lt;br /&gt;
